Close on the heels of various pro leagues taking place in the country, volleyball to is jumping the bandwagon after the success of sports such as kabaddi, football, badminton and cricket of course.
The Pro Volleyball League will be launched early next year in February will essentially include players from India as well as overseas. The way it is with the other leagues. The dates are yet to be finalized but one thing is for sure that the Indian spikers will be rubbing shoulders with top players from around the globe and will probably learn new tricks of the trade as well
The Pro Volleyball League (PVL), will be televised and is likely to see six teams vying for the honors. It is set to attract some of the best foreign players, with the star attraction being USA’s gold-medal winning Olympian David Lee.
Baseline Ventures Pvt Ltd is the promoter of the league. Volleyball is a popular sport in rural as well as semi-urban centers across India and this could help the league become another PKL like league. India as such is not a great volleyball power but a league like this can certainly do wonders for the game in the country.
