The Australian innings have reached the halfway mark and they would be quite happy to not lose any more wickets in the first 25 overs of their innings.
It was a disastrous start for the Kangaroos as they lost their skipper Aaron Finch in the third over of the innings. It was yet another failure for Finch, as he could not play any big inning in the recently concluded Test series as well. It was right-arm seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar who gave the much-needed breakthrough.
It was a good length delivery around off, it nipped back in with a lot of intent, no feet movement from the Aussie captain. He failed to cover the lateral movement and the ball missed the inside edge and disturbed his timber.
Finch could only score six runs during his inning.
His fellow opener Alex Carey started his knock really confidently. He was taking the Indian bowlers head-on and took a special liking to the left-arm pacer, Khaleel Ahmed, as he kept on hitting him for boundaries. By seeing the way he was playing, everyone believed that a big inning is coming from his bat but Kuldeep Yadav had some different plans.
After hitting the previous ball for a boundary, Carey tried to play a similar a cut shot on the next ball but sadly it went straight into the hands of the first slip.
Flatter delivery outside off stump from Kuldeep, not short as the previous one. There was no room for the cut shot, Carey tried to play late and got a thick edge and Rohit Sharma took a sharp catch to send him back to the dressing room. The ball flew off the bat, but Rohit made sure that he held on to it.
Carey scored 24 runs off 31 balls before perishing, hitting five boundaries during his knock.
Australia’s Test match specialist Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh, who is playing this series to cement his place in the Australian side, are currently the inning forward. They are slowly and steadily building a solid partnership. As of now, they both have added 70 runs for the third wicket.
Khwaja completed his fifth ODI half-century with a single towards square-leg and he would now be looking to get his maiden ODI hundred.
Finch would want these two experienced players to give some valuable contribution to their team so that they can get to a big total.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav have taken one wicket each as of now.
After 26 overs, the Kangaroos have put 119 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets with Usman Khawaja (51) and Shaun Marsh (32) still at the crease.
