The Aussies have refused to play any One-Day International games in Pakistan due to security concerns and both the teams will now travel to United Arab Emirates (UAE) to compete in a five-match series starting from March 21.
After so much of delay the governing body of the game in the country, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) finally announced that the whole One-Day International series would be played in the UAE from March 21 to March 31.
The Director Cricket (International), Zakir Khan, said, “The Pakistan Cricket Board was optimistic that it will be able to convince Cricket Australia to send its side for some matches after successfully staging high-profile bilateral series and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the past 18 months.”
Adding, “But, we are disappointed for the enthusiastic and passionate cricket fans in Pakistan who will now have to for some more time before they can see Australia cricket team live in action for the first time since 1998. Australia are the World Champions and this series will provide the Pakistan cricket team an opportunity to assess their World Cup preparations.”
The PCB had invited the governing body of Australian to send their team to Karachi to play one of two matches of the series and were really hopeful that the Kangaroos will come to the country since 1998.
Pakistan are doing whatever it can to bring cricket back to that region in the last 18 months. The Men in Green hosted the ICC World XI, which also comprised the skipper of the Australian team Tim Paine and fast bowler Ben Cutting, in September 2017.
A few days back, the women’s team of the West Indies played the Women in Green in a three-match T20 International series in Karachi.
The staff of the Windies team was quite happy with the security arrangements and the crowds did turn in to support both the teams.
