Indian freestyle wrestler Bajrang Punia defeated Mehran Nasiri of Iran in the finals to clinch a gold medal at the Tbilisi Grand Prix in the 65kg category in Georgia on Thursday.
The 24-year-old wrestler, who also won gold at 2018 Commonwealth Games, completed a comfortable 9-3 win over the Iranian.
With this win, Bajrang has made his credibility as a medal contender at the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia, where he will represent the country in the 65kg after Wrestling Federation of India handed him exemption from trials.
Meanwhile, in the 86kg category, Deepak Punia clinched a bronze with a 5-3 win over Osman Gosen of Turkey.
However, for ace Indian Sushil Kumar, it was a forgettable outing as he faced his first defeat in more than four years to crash out of 74kg category on Wednesday.
