Reigning Asian Games gold medalist Amit Panghal has been nominated for Arjuna Award by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). Panghal was nominated last year as well, but was not considered as he failed the dope test.
BFI nominated him again after taking into consideration his notable performances this year. He clinched gold in the Asian Boxing Championships by beating Korea’s Kim Inkyu in the 52 kg category.
Delhi-based boxer Gaurav Bidhuri has also been nominated by the BFI.
Former women's chief coach Shiv Singh and women's assistant coach Sandhya Gurung have also been recommended for the Dronacharya Award.
