Sebastian Vettel finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton but was denied victory due to a penalty in the Canadian Grand Prix. Vettel ran off the track and re-joined, in the stewards’ eyes unsafely, which earned the Ferrari driver a five-second penalty that cost him the race win.
Hamilton claimed his fifth win of the season to stretch his lead at the top of the drivers’ standings. Charles Leclerc finished third, which at least gave Ferrari their best result of the season.
