Former India opening batsman – Virender Sehwag has recently in an interview said that the Indian team must rely more on their spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav more than their pacers on UAE tracks.
“Kuldeep (Yadav) and (Yuzvendra) Chahal have been quite successful over the past year or so but during the tournament, it will be challenging for them to prove themselves against sub continental batsmen who have been playing spin since they were kids. India can’t rely on the fast bowlers to take wickets as the surfaces in UAE are going to be pretty flat with almost no assistance for the pacers.”
While Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have had their fair share of success over the past couple of seasons with the former taking 48 wickets in 23 ODI matches while the latter, 45 wickets in 26 matches.
But the Asia Cup will bring forward a new challenge to the spin twins as they’ll come up against opponents who have grown up playing on spinning wickets and know the art to countering the ability.
The tournament gets underway on the 15th of September with the opening match being between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. India first match will be against Hong Kong on the 18th, while they face Pakistan on the very next day itself.
