The Chinese Wrestling Association (CWA) is eager to invite Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships to be held in February 2019. China will play host to the championships and the association has reportedly forwarded a request with the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to that effect. The idea behind calling Aamir Khan is reported to be the movie Dangal, wherein he played father of Indian women wrestler, Geeta Phogat, and won accolodes for his performance. Apart from the Indian domestic box office, the film minted huge amounts in China as well.
Zhang Ye, a member of United World Wrestling’s technical commission and Asian Associated Wrestling Council, has voiced this request more than two occasions. WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has given a slimmer of hope to Zhang that he will try to persuade Khan for his attendence. It will be interesting to see if Khan relents and takes out time from his busy schedule.
In addition, there are chances of Geeta and Babita Phogat who maybe part of the Indian contingent for the championship provided they get selected in the trails. Quite a Dangal reunion on cards?
