India's star shuttler PV Sindhu proceeded to the next round of ongoing China Open with ease. Facing Russia's Evgeniya Kosetskaya, Sindhu was in her elements and hardly broke any sweat to progress further. Sindhu would be eager to make up for her quarterfinal-exit in French Open and go the distance this time around. This was the first clash between both the players, and Sindhu prevailed courtesy a straight games victory; 21-13, 21-19.
Sindhu ran away with the lead in the opening game. She was ahead from the initial moments and piled pressure on Evgeniya from the word go. She was in full flow and played aggressively. At 15-12, the first game still wasn't heavily in favour of Sindhu. But, she wrapped up things in style to take early honours with a 21-13 scoreline.
The penultimate game was a close affair. The Russian seemed to have found her touch but Sindhu emerged on top by remaining composed and not altering her game much. In match statistics, Sindhu led 6-5 in most consecutive points won. She was 2-0 ahead in game points won. In total points played (i.e. 74), Sindhu led Evgeniya 42-32.
Prior to this, Ashwini Ponappa and N. Sikki Reddy crashed out of the women's doubles courtesy Japan's Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto.
