Christian Eriksen is said to be delaying signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspurs.
The influential playmaker’s current deal expires in 2020 and, according to the London Evening Standard, was offered a new one last month.
If he does not follow the likes of Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli by signing a new deal, Spurs may be forced to listen to offers for him in the summer, rather than risk losing him for a reduced price further down the line.
Eriksen, who joined the club in 2013 and is believed to earn around £75,000-a-week, has previously been linked with Barcelona.
In Tottenham’s 3-0 win against Cardiff on New Year’s Day, the 26-year-old scored his fourth goal in six games and when asked about his player’s contract, manager Mauricio Pochettino said: “I don’t have news. The phrase is no news is good news, in that case I don’t know. No news is good news.”
His display in Wales saw him hailed as a technician by Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness.
“He has a picture that few people have, he’s a very very special player. On his day he such a fantastic player to watch. Sometime you want to pay just to watch, not all the time, but most of the time, you feel like that.”
