The detective department of Kolkata police has written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), asking for the details of the Indian team’s traveling plans and especially about seam bowler Mohammad Shami’s schedule during its just-concluded tour to South Africa, not only this they have also seized the Shami’s phone.
Joint CP (crime) Praveen Kumar Tripathy stated that “We have written to the board to ascertain Shami’s movements outside the country.” Sources also added to their statement that with families of both Pacer Shami and his wife Hasin Jahan closing on an “amicable settlement” (a settlement that satisfies both the parties.), the police want to be ready if the court seeks a report on the investigation conducted so far.
According to the sources at Lalbazar, “Both sides are yet to approach the court seeking a settlement. Hence, there is little question of letting our guards down.” According to reports, Shami’s wife Hasin had informed cops that Shami was to return home on February 16.
Instead, he returned to India a day later. “This is one aspect on which we want a clarification from BCCI,” said a police source.
Therefore, sources stated that police is planning to complete all three legal procedures required at the beginning of the investigation, forensically test the purported audio clips provided by Hasin as evidence, get Hasin’s statement recorded before a local magistrate and complete basic enquiries — before they take a decision on travelling to Moradabad to talk to Shami.
