India’s ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra’s fiercest domestic competitor Davinder Singh Kang finally had a sigh of relief after he was cleared of doping charges by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
Kang was handed a provisional suspension in 2017 after his urine samples returned positive for anabolic steroids. The samples were collected out-of-competition on November 10, 2017, at Patiala by the AIU and were tested at the WADA-accredited NDTL here.
The Punjab based thrower Kang had an 84.22m throw at the Athletics World Championships in 2017 to his credit and for the first time in the history of Indian athletics, an Indian javelin thrower had made it to the final of a World event.
Kang also won the bronze medal at the 2017 Asian Athletics championship with a throw of 83.29m.
He will now be seen in action at the Federation Cup in Patiala from 15-18 March, where star athletes Hima Das, Arpinder Singh, Manjeet Singh, Tajinder Pal Toor,Jinson Johnson will be in action at India’s premier Athletics event.
