Captain cool MS Dhoni has been struggling with the bat in the recent past and despite having a great season of Indian Premier League, the attacking batsman has failed to replicate that success in the international circuit.
Legendary Indian player Sunil Gavaskar believes that Dhoni should move back to domestic cricket and play some matches to gain his form and then stake a claim for the Indian team.
“Absolutely, he should feature in the domestic cricket. Dhoni should be playing domestic cricket and should be playing the four-day games as well because he will help so many of the emerging players from Jharkhand. In the 50-over game you have limited opportunities but if you play a four-day game and play a long innings its great for your stamina, for your legs, for the rhythm that you want in limited-overs cricket,” Gavaskar said.
Not only has Dhoni struggled to score runs, but he has also found it hard to maintain a healthy strike rate on the rare occasions that he has scored some runs.
This year Dhoni has scored 189 runs in 9 ODI innings at an average of 27, which doesn’t look good for a player of his caliber, with the highest score of just 42. His inability to finish matches in the recent past have turned out be really problematic for the Men in Blue.
Dhoni is being heavily trolled on the internet for his slow inning of 36 in yesterday's match against Bangladesh, which was the finals of 2018 Asia Cup. He took 67 balls to score those things.
