Indian wrestler Divya Kakran, who won bronze at 2018 Commonwealth Games, bagged silver medal in 68kg weight category in women’s freestyle at the ongoing Junior Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi on Thursday.
The 20-year-old Divya was 5-0 down in the opening three minutes and suffered a crushing 11-0 defeat against Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan in the final.
Other than Divya, Reena (55kg) and Karuna (76kg) settled with bronze, while Shivani Panwar (50kg) and Sangeeta Phogat (59kg), missed out on a podium finish.
India had hoped to win a medal in all five weight divisions. However, chief national coach, K Biju, said: “The team had good preparation, but small errors at crucial moments proved decisive.”
