The summer transfer window is the most unpredictable and exciting period in the football calendar as players swap teams to move onto new pastures at the end of each season. Various players move to new countries and some move to bigger clubs within the same country to kick-start or take the next step in their career.
Fans of clubs all over the world eagerly wait for this period to see which players their club will bring in and which players they will get rid of. Summer transfers in the past couple of years have produced some stunning deals with the mouth-watering amount of money being involved.
Here are five players whose transfer deals have already been confirmed.
Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal to Juventus
The Welsh midfield lynchpin, whose contract with Arsenal will be over at the end of this season, will move to Juventus on a free transfer. The Italian champions have proved to be the masters of shrewd business, having snapped up several players for free in the previous seasons.
The likes of Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Sami Khedira, Dani Alves and Fernando Llorente were all picked up without spending a penny. Ramsey had represented Wales in their run to the semi-finals of the Euro 2016.
The goal scoring midfielder, who was a favourite of Arsene Wenger, has played over 350 matches for the club and scored 61 goals. It was a surprise that the Gunners didn’t extend his contract and the Bianconeri opted for his services before anyone else.
Lucas Hernandez – Atletico Madrid to Bayern Munich
The World Cup winner with France will swap La Liga for Bundesliga in the summer. Bavarian giants Bayern Munich has confirmed that Hernandez, who will arrive from Atletico Madrid, will join the club in July for a club record €80 million (INR 6.27 billion approx).
He has signed a five-year contract which will run through to 2024. The versatile defender can be deployed as both centre-back and left-back. The 23-year-old will undergo surgery on his right knee after he was diagnosed with a ligament injury by the Bayern medical team.
Frenkie de Jong – Ajax to Barcelona
The Dutch midfielder made headlines this season for his performances in the Champions League with Ajax. He was a vital cog in the wheel of the Amsterdam club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals.
De Jong will move to Spanish champions Barcelona at the end of the season on a five-year contract for a reported fee of €75million (INR 5.87 billion approx).
His defensive qualities and passing range will surely strengthen the Catalan club as he promises to be a mainstay in their midfield, for years to come.
Razvan Marin – Standard Liege to Ajax
Ajax has signed this Romanian international midfielder from Belgian side, Standard Liege, as a direct replacement for Frenkie de Jong who will be leaving the camp soon.
Marin is usually deployed as either a central or defensive midfielder, although he is also capable of playing in a more advanced position as an attacking midfielder.
He is a product of the Gheorghe Hagi academy, the best training centre in his native country. Ajax has signed him on a five year deal for a reported transfer fee of €12.5 million (INR 98 crore approx).
The sum was the third-highest ever paid by the Dutch club, and it also made Marin the third-most expensive Romanian footballer of all time behind Adrian Mutu and Cristian Chivu.
Kevin Mbabu – Young Boys to Wolfsburg
The 24-year-old highly rated Swiss right-back will join Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg from Swiss Super League champions Young Boys.
He will join the club on a four-year contract until 2023 for an undisclosed fee. Mbabu was earlier in the books of Newcastle United but had made only three Premier League appearances.
He left the Magpies and went onto win two consecutive Swiss league titles. Mbabu made his international debut last year and would want to continue his good run in Germany.
