Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber was ousted by 18-year-old Russian, Anastasia Potapova 4-6, 2-6 in the first round at Roland Garros.
Kerber, who was making a comeback after a foot injury, was outplayed in straight sets. The 31-year-old German had withdrawn from the Italian Open and retired in a second round tie at Madrid Open due to injury.
This was her sixth first-round exit at the French Open. Kerber has won every grand slam once, barring the title at Roland Garros.
