Former India captain Saurav Ganguly believes that Indian Premier League (IPL) has no rational and it can'tbe a yardstick to determine the value of cricketers.
Ganguly, the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) said the outrageous prices cricketers fetched in the cash-rich league have no bearing on their abilities.
The scorer of 38 international hundreds was speaking at the launch of 20th edition of the Cricket Year Book.
To justify his viewpoint, Ganguly said that South African star batsman Hashim Amla went unsold and he has 54 international hundreds while Ishan Kishen gets over INR 6 crore having played only Ranji Trophy. He further elaborated that Jaydev Unadkat, who has little international experience, fetched INR 11.5 crore and Manish Pandey goes for INR 11 crore.
Ganguly'scomments came up on a question asked to him as to why Wriddhiman Saha, inarguably India’s best wicket-keeper, was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 5 crore, and Dinesh Karthik fetched INR 7.4 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders.
