In the battle of table toppers from zone A, Gujarat Fortune Giants made a stunning comeback to hand out U Mumba their 4th loss of the season 6 of the Pro Kabaddi League at the Transtadia in Ahmedabad.
The match which was supposed to see a battle of defenders started on an even keel and after the opening 6 minutes it was 6-all but then a Super raid from U Mumba’s Siddharth Desai took them to lead at 11-7 with an All Out to Gujarat. After this, the U Mumba gradually increased the lead and were running away were running away with the scoreline at 21-10 but the last five of the first half then saw Gujarat comeback strongly to finish at 16-21 with back to back super tackles.
The second half too started with the same tone and saw the Ahmedabad based team reducing the visitors to just 2 men on the mat with the points difference at 19-22. But just when an all-out was on the cards, Gujarat made a defensive error and handed them a point which led to a revival of Fazel Atrachali who super tackled in the next raid to bring back U Mumba into the game. And after the revival, U Mumba shot to 27-21 with 8 minutes into the half. Soon U Mumba’s defense fell apart and gave easy points to Gujarat which changed the game and resulted in a U Mumba all out with the score at 28-30. The home team didn’t let the momentum slip and continued their charge and inflicted another all out on U Mumba in the dying minutes of the match to make it 37-32. With just 2 minutes left, the Fortune Giants didn’t commit any hara-kiri and won the match 39-35.
The win brings both teams at a touching distance of each other on the Zone A points table where U Mumba leads with 57 points from 15 games and Fortune Giants lurking behind at 53 points from 13 games.
