Pakistan’s selection committee has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand and once again pacer Mohammad Amir has been left out of the side.
Amir was unable to pick any wickets in this year’s Asia Cup. Due to which, selectors have been leaving him out of the country’s national side in the shorter format of the game. Since the Asia Cup, this is the second time Amir has been dropped from the side.
Meanwhile, all-rounders Mohammad Hafeez and Imad Wasim have staged a comeback in the side for the three-match ODI series in the UAE. After being missing out Pakistan’s one-day series against Zimbabwe and was also not included in the team for this year’s Asia Cup. But he showed brilliant form in the recently concluded T20I series against Australia and made his way back into the side.
Wasim has also been recalled in the squad. It has been over a year since Wasim played the last of his 30 ODIs. He has scored 430 runs with three half-centuries and took 28 wickets. But he really impressed the selectors in the series against the Aussies, gaining two ‘Player of the Match’ awards in succession in the first two matches of their 3-0 whitewash against the Tim Paine-led side.
This ODI series will be important for the Sarfraz Ahmed-led side because their position in ICC Team Rankings (ODI) is going down series after series. After the Asia Cup, the Men in Green have dropped down to a 7th spot in the rankings.
Pakistan ODI squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (Captain), Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Haris Sohail, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Imad Wasim, Hassan Ali, Junaid Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Usman Khan Shinwari.
