Hockey World Cup 2018's Match 13 saw Ireland lock horns with China. In an important Pool B clash, Ireland and China remained at 1-1 at Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Stadium on Tuesday.
Ireland and China began on the same note. While Ireland enjoyed the ball possession for the first and second quarter respectively, it was 0-0 at the half-time. It looked like Ireland would be the first to score, but China's jersey number 43, Guo Jin PC prevailed for his side.
The drama ensued as Ireland got the equalizer soon. Their goal-scorer was Alan Sothern. Both sides went into the last quarter with scores leveled at 1-1. It was all to play for as the game had a lot riding on it in terms of qualifications for the other round from this Pool (B).
Talking about the last quarter, it was another see-saw battle with the momentum juggling corners. There was not much to separate between both sides and it eventually ended at 1-1.
By virtue of this result, defending champions are through to the quarterfinals with two victories on the trot. England and Ireland have a loss and drawn encounter under their belt whereas China is in an interesting spot with two draws and nearing further qualifications.
