IAAF World Challenge calendar for 2019 will see induction of a new meeting in Nanjing, China.
Nanjing, which was host to the 2014 Youth Olympic Games and also in line to host the 2020 IAAF World Indoor Championships, will stage an IAAF World Challenge meeting at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on 21 May.
The World Challenge series, envisioned in 2010, features several one day meets held across the season. It acts as the second tier of IAAF events behind the prestigious Diamond League series. But, unlike the Diamond League, World Challenge has no champions at the end of the season.
A new meeting in Nanjing, China, is among the key changes to the IAAF World Challenge calendar for 2019.
Last year nine events were held in total including competitions in Jamaica, Japan, The Netherlands and Spain. China did not feature on the 2018 calendar, and thus, the country will this year have one event.
The refurbished 2019 IAAF World Challenge calendar looks like this:
28 Apr – Bragança Paulista, Brazil
4 May – Kingston, Jamaica
19 May – Osaka, Japan
21 May – Nanjing, China
9 Jun – Hengelo, Netherlands
11 Jun – Turku, Finland
20 Jun – Ostrava, Czech Republic
1 Sep – Berlin, Germany
3 Sep – Zagreb, Croatia
