After a splendid performance in the recently concluded Test series against Australia, Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas rose to number three in the Test bowling rankings on Sunday.
Abbas has achieved the feat after twin five-wicket hauls in the second Test against the Aussies, which helped Pakistan win the match by 373 runs and clinch the series 1-0. Abbas has managed to pick 59 wickets in the 10 Test matches that he has played for the Pakistan team.
His performances in Test matches has made him dash up the ICC Test Player Rankings for bowlers, all the way from No. 14 to No. 3 with career-best rating points of 829. Two bowlers who are ahead of him are England’s James Anderson with 899 points and South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada with 882 points.
One more Pakistani bowler who has managed to make big moves up the ladder was Bilal Asif. He picked up three crucial wickets in the first innings of the second Test match. With six wickets in the first Test match, Asif has managed to pick 9 wickets in two appearances, which has helped him gain 17 spots and get to 52nd rank.
Pakistan’s 1-0 series win helped them gain seven points in the rankings for Test teams. They are now in the seventh position with 95 points, just two points behind their Asian counterpart Sri Lanka.
After the conclusion of the Test series, Pakistan is all set to take on Australia in a three-match T20I series in the UAE. The first match will be played in Abu Dhabi on October 24 while the second and third T20I will be played inside the newly built Dubai International Stadium on October 26 and October 28.
