The Indian women’s hockey team frittered away a 2-goal cushion against the hosts and 2018 World Cup bronze medalists Spain to draw their fourth match of the tour 2-2 in Murcia, Spain on Thursday. By virtue of the draw the test series is tied at 1-1
It was India, who scored the first goal in the 8th minute of the match through Deep Grace putting India on the front-foot right at the start. In search of their 2nd consecutive win over the Spaniards the Indians kept on attacking and doubled the scoreline in the 26th minute with a Navneet Kaur strike who made no mistake in converting a beautiful pass in the circle from captain Rani Rampal.
The Indians were in the driver’s seat at the end of the 1st half but a determined Spain made a quick recovery with a strike each from Lucia Jimenez and Clara Ycart in the 35th & 39th minute respectively to make it even stevens 2-2.
With just a quarter to play for, both teams pressed hard for a winner but couldn’t materialize the inroads into goal.
With the way, the Indian team started the proceedings, it looked India will end the Spain Test Series on a high but the Spaniards made sure they took nothing away from the leg.
Earlier, the Indian team began the tour on a depressing note with a 2-3 loss and then drew the 2nd match 1-1 before thumping the Spaniards 5-2 in the 3rd match of the tour. India will now play Ireland in a 2-match Test series on 2nd and 3rd February as part of the tour.
