After losing the opening clash of their Spainish tour, 2-3, India women seemed to have learned from their past mistakes. As a result, they showed maturity and played with more intensity to level with hosts, Spain, in the second tie at 1-1. From India's perspective, India's Gurjit Kaur (43') scored her second goal of the tournament whereas Maria Tost (49') stood out for Spain.
After going down 2-3 to Spain in the first match, the Indian team put up a spirited performance in a high-voltage second encounter.
While the first quarter ended in a stalemate, the second quarter saw India make a breakthrough with their first penalty corner of the match. The penalty corner was re-taken but well-saved by the Spanish goalkeeper.
The score continued to be 0-0 at half-time but Spain created a penalty corner opportunity soon into the third quarter. The Indian goalkeeper made an impressive save to deny the hosts. India increased their tempo in the following minutes that led to yet another penalty corner. It was brilliantly struck by dragflicker Gurjit in the 43rd minute.
The 1-0 lead, however, didn't last too long as a defensive lapse by India gave way to Spain scoring a beautiful field goal through Maria in the 49th minute to level the scores 1-1.
The final quarter remained intense with not much to seperate between both sides. The hooter ended the clash in a riveting draw, but credit goes to both sides for giving their all. The high intensity led to a fast-paced game with plenty happening every minute. However, India will have to wait for the next clash to go the distance and emerge on top of Spain
India will play their third match against Spain on January 29 (Tuesday).
