With the Indian Premier League (IPL) now scheduled to be held on March 23, Zimbabwe’s proposed tour of India has the possibility of getting canceled due to the closeness of dates with the high profile league. Just a few days ago the Board of Cricket and Control in India (BCCI) announced the revised date of IPL in order to provide the players with adequate rest before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 which is set to take place in May.
The end result could turn out to be unfavorable for the African nation – Zimbabwe as they were expected to visit India at some point in March, though the official announcement hadn’t been made. India were on course of facing Zimbabwe for one Test and three One Day Internationals (ODIs). But since India are currently facing Australia in the ODI format, and have New Zealand to tour along with Australia to host, as well as the IPL soon to follow, the cramped schedule may in fact jeopardize Zimbabwe’s chances of facing India in the time to come.
With the final match against Australia ending on January 18, the men in blue’s next frontier against the Kiwis will commence from 23rd this month, till February 10. The two T20Is and five ODIs against Australia in home conditions will run from February 24 to March 13, which gives ten days before the IPL begins for its twelfth edition.
As per sources Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni will meet BCCI officials to discuss the various options including the omission of the one-off Test for T20Is and ODIs.
