Satnam Singh made history by becoming the first Indian-born basketball player to play in Canada's NBL when he made his debut in the St. John's Edge's season opener against the defending champions the London Lightning (103-107).
Satnam has made basketball history for Indian athletes over the past few years in the sport. The 7 ft, 2 in center, in 2015, became the first Indian-born basketball player to be drafted in the NBA.
In 2015, he became the first Indian-born basketball player to be drafted in the NBA in 2015 and subsequently becoming the first Indian-born play to participate in the NBA's D-League (now G-league) for the Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks' affiliate.
After two years with the Texas Legends and then a year off to focus on his national commitments, the baller from Punjab is back at it as he signed for the Canada based team on November 18.
Located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador in the eastern-most portion of Canada, the Edge is one of the best teams in the league. They finished with the league's third-best record last season at 29-19 which was second in their division. After winning their opening round playoff series, the Edge lost in the Division Finals which is one step short of the league's championship series.
