Seems like Indian skipper Virat Kohli might have to prove his fitness ahead of the home series against West Indies.
Kohli, who was rested for the ongoing Asia Cup, might have to undergo ‘yo-yo test’ before the start of the series against the Jason Holder-led side. As per a report, Kohli will take the test on September 28, after which the national selectors could name the Test squad for the aforementioned series.
The 29-year-old batsman has been dealing with some problems related to his fitness, that is probably the reason he has been asked to take the yo-yo test.
This test has been made mandatory by the board. All the players have to clear this test in order to retain their place in the national team. A few months back, players like Ambati Rayudu and Mohammad Shami were dropped from the side because they failed to clear the yo-yo test.
Apart from Kohli, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and pacer Ishant Sharma will also go through a fitness test on September 29. Ashwin had to miss the fifth and final test owing to the side strain while Ishant played all the five matches in England.
The series between India and West Indies is slated to start on October 4 in Rajkot. The second Test match will be played in Hyderabad from October 12. The test series will be followed by a five-match one-day series and three-match T20I series.
