Former Indian specialist batsman turned cricket expert – VVS Laxman has branded the men in blue as the main contenders to lift the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup along with the hosts England as well.
The ‘very very special’ Laxman feels that the momentum gained in the last three months after historic series wins in Australia by 2-1, which was followed by a 4-1 thumping of a formidable New Zealand side away from home was pivotal for Captain Kohli and his men when they look to lay foot in the world event starting May 30.
“It’s all about peaking at the right time which is so important. The World Cup is a long format so every player should be at his best physically and mentally if India has to win the World Cup. They start as favourites. For me, India and England start as favourites,” Laxman said.
“I think brilliant. The way they played, I would like to congratulate the entire team,”
“The way they played right from the Australia series to the New Zealand series… and it’s not only one or two players who have put their hand up. Everyone has contributed. So it’s great to see bowling and batting departments contribute,” he further added.
With Team India ensuring authority in recent times, their final frontier in the international circuit will be the home series against the Aussies, with the campaign starting on February 24, comprising of two T20Is, and five ODIs.
