Liverpool bossJurgen Klopp, confirmed that defender Dejan Lovren injured his hamstring in the game against Wolves in the FA Cup third round match at Molineux Stadium on Monday.
The Croatian defender had to leave the field early Jurgen Klopp decided to replace him with a 16-year-old Dutch defender, Ki-Jana Hoever.
"[It is his] hamstring, is what I heard - without any signs before. I asked everybody, no signs, nothing, just out of the blue, so that’s the decision you have to make," Klopp told in the club's official website.
"I am not sure what you all would have said if immediately from the beginning our centre-half situation was Fabinho and Ki-Jana; then probably a few very smart people would tell me that I don’t respect the competition or whatever."
Dejan Lovren added to the long list of injured Liverpool center-backs this season after Joe Gomez and Joel Matip were sidelined by injury.
Practically, Klopp is left only with only one central defender in the first team who is fit, namely Virgil van Dijk. He was not included in the FA Cup match.
Klopp confirmed resting Van Dijk for the match because he had never missed a Liverpool match this season.
"Van Dijk is at home and hopefully (the problem) is not serious. He has played in all matches so far. We will try a solution, namely by trying Fabinho," Klopp said before the match against Wolves.
Ki-Jana Hoever's appearance in the match was quite impressive and it is not impossible that Klopp may call him back for the match in the Premier Leaguematch against Brighton on Saturday.
Another one from the Liverpool U-23 team who is worth trying is Nat Philips. Klopp can also modify his midfielder to ploy Fabinho or Georginio Wijnaldumas a central defender.
Klopp indicated he would not ask for players in the winter transfer market this time. "Maybe not," Klopp said briefly when answering questions about the possibility of buying players in this transfer window.
