All eyes were on Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton in Austin as the Briton needed to take his advantage to 75 points over Sebastian Vettel to claim his fifth F-1 championship title. However it was Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen who sped past Hamilton in the opening lap. Meanwhile Vettel’s tryst with disaster continued as he brushed Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull car. Vettel now had to make his way past the others to have any say in the race. Hamilton meanwhile pitted early in an attempt to outsmart the Ferraris. Raikkonen too took his pit stop but that was 11 laps after Hamilton. Meanwhile Red Bull driver Max Verstappen made his move and made a series of overtaking moves. The effects of Hamilton’s early pit stop started to show its effect and another pit stop for the Briton was inevitable. This set the stage for an exciting finish but it was Kimi who held on to win his first F-1 race since 2013. Max Verstappen came in second while Hamilton finished 3rd. Hamilton will now aim to open up another 5 point advantage over Vettel in the next race in Mexico to win his 5th World Championship.
