The 2019 edition of Indian Premier League is just around the corner and Kolkata Knight Riders have bolstered their pace department by adding Kerala’s fast bowler Sandeep Warrier. The decision has been taken after seeing a string of good performances in domestic cricket.
Warrier had an amazing season of cricket and picked up 44 wickets for his side in the 2018-19 season of Ranji Trophy. He also picked up an 8-wicket haul against Gujarat in the semi-final stage of the highly prestigious domestic league.
He continued his golden run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy too where he picked up a hat-trick in the thrilling eight-run win over Andhra Pradesh last month. It was one of the main reasons why Kolkata Knight Riders have rewarded him with a place in the squad for the upcoming season.
However, Warrier is not new to the IPL. He was a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2013-2015 but did not play a single game. In 2018, he did not find a buyer during the auction.
The bowler has taken a total of 41 wickets in 40 T20 matches that he has played so far in his career at an average of 24.75. His economy rate has been 7.09.
Warrier is a new addition to the already good pace attack, which includes New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson, Harry Gurney, Andrich Nortje, Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Prithviraj Yarra.
Warrier’s addition will give the side an experienced cricketer as far as domestic conditions are concerned.
