Raider Dong Geon Lee and Cover defender Parvesh Bhainswal helped Gujarat Fortunegiants to a 45-38 victory over Dabang Delhi K.C. at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida on Sunday. This was the fifth successive victory for Gujarat Fortunegiants in this campaign as they strengthened their position in the top-half of Zone A.
Gujarat Fortunegiants started the game in a sprightly manner after a Rohit Gulia Super Raid in the 3rd minute gave them a 5-1 lead.
They kept on chipping away at the scoreboard and didn’t allow an inch to Dabang Delhi K.C. as Parvesh Bhainswal helped them inflict the first All-Out of the game in just the 5th minute with a Block on Pawan Kumar Kadian.
Dabang Delhi K.C.’s raider, though, kept them in the game and didn’t allow the early disadvantage to take the game too far out of their team’s reach.
Both teams kept on exchanging points in a high-scoring first half before Joginder Narwal pulled off an Ankle Hold on Sachin off the first Do-or-Die raid for Gujarat Fortunegiants to reduce the deficit to five points.
Once they smelled blood, Dabang Delhi K.C. looked to go in for the kill as Chandran Ranjit got a touch on Ruturaj Koravi and reduced Gujarat Fortunegiants to a solitary player on the mat. This enabled them to inflict an All-Out of their own in the 15th minute to reduce the deficit to just three points with the scores reading 18-15.
But Gujarat Fortunegiants immediately took back control of the match, conceding just two points for the next 12 points they managed. This included their second All-Out on Dabang Delhi K.C. in the 20th minute as Gujarat Fortunegiants took a 9-point lead into the half with the scores reading 27-18.
Dabang Delhi K.C. started the second half on the right note as they got four unanswered points after a 2-point raid by Dong Geon Lee had given Gujarat Fortunegiants an 11-point lead. However, two Super Tackles in quick succession by Gujarat Fortunegiants helped them increase their lead to 12.
Dabang Delhi K.C. fought back through their raiders and inflicted a second All-Out on Gujarat Fortunegiants in the 10th minute as Ranjit got touches on Sachin and Bhainswal to complete his Super 10.
But Lee, who was in superb touch, immediately struck back for Gujarat Fortunegiants and reached his first-ever Super 10 in Pro Kabaddi to help his team maintain their lead. Sachin Vittala’s Block on Kadian gave Gujarat Fortunegiants their third Super Tackle of the game in the 17th minute and Dabang Delhi K.C. were unable to overcome the deficit from there.
Bhainswal helped himself to a High 5 in the 18th minute and Gujarat Fortunegiants put in a clinical performance towards the end to ensure they walked away with a victory.
