World No. 1 Novak Djokovic edged past last year’s runner-up, Dominic Thiem 7-6, 7-6 in a marathon semi-final that lasted for two hours and 22 minutes.
Djokovic was fully rested as he got a bye in the quarters because his opponent withdrew due to food poisoning. Whereas, Thiem reached the semis after defeating Roger Federer in a gruelling three-setter.
This will be Djokovic’s first finals appearance since winning the Australian Open. Djokovic will be up against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
