India’s ace female paddler Manika Batra became the first Indian to win the Breakthrough Table Tennis Star award at the esteemed InternationalTable Tennis Federation Star Awards in Incheon, South Korea.
Manika’s performances throughout the year 2018 have been remarkable. She first helped the Indian team to win the team Gold at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast defeating 4 times champions Singapore 3-1. Then she bagged a Gold Medal in the Women’s Singles category by beating former World No. 4 Feng Tianwei. She was unstoppable at the Games and won a silver medal in the Women’s Doubles event with partner Mouma Das and a bronze in the Mixed Doubles event with Sathiyan Gnanasekaran.
She also managed to win a Bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta at the Mixed Doubles event, while pairing up with experienced paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal.
She ended the last year with a world ranking of 119 and as per the latest rankings released by the ITTF, she has leaped to No. 52 in the World. No other Indian female Table Tennis player has risen to this position to date.
