New Zealand will definitely be the underdogs against India. Having said that, this is a World Cup semi-final. It’s a huge match. Virat Kohli said in the press conference that the team that will enjoy the occasion, soak in and embrace the pressure will win the match.
If you see man to man, then India is in better form. Rohit Sharma is in the form of his life. KL Rahul has scored a century. Virat Kohli is batting well. Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni have got runs. Dhoni’s strike rate has been a bit low but it’s okay as he has not batted that bad. Rishabh Pant has also contributed.
Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the bowlers of the tournament. Yuzvendra Chahal has bowled well. Mohammed Shami has also picked up wickets. So, all said and done Indian team is in form and looking the part.
New Zealand started the World Cup very well but since then they have progressively dipped. Kane Williamson is a very, very important player. He scored two hundreds after which his form has dipped. Ross Taylor hasn’t got runs.
Trent Boult will be the key to New Zealand. He will be looking to pick up some quick wickets at the beginning. Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson are two important bowlers.
But India is in great form and are overwhelming favourites going into this match. Sourav Ganguly told me that he would be extremely surprised and it would be part of a miracle if India doesn’t make the final. Michael Clarke said that if India loses to New Zealand, it would be the upset of the World Cup.
So, all said and done I think India will reach the final and if they don’t reach the final then it will be a huge upset.
