“Joy Bangla” has to be the slogan of the day. No one thought of Bangladesh chasing a total of 322 against the West Indies with utmost conviction.
After the end of first innings, I personally thought the pace attack of Oshane Thomas, Shannon Gabriel, and Sheldon Cottrell would be too hot to handle for Bangladesh’s batting line-up. But Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar got off to a blistering start.
As soon as the first wicket fell, in came Shakib Al Hasan who’s in the form of his life. We usually talk about Joe Root and Rohit Sharma in this year’s World Cup but Shakib Al Hasan has been a class act with both bat and ball in the ongoing tournament.
The star all-rounder scored a hundred against England and now managed to score a match-winning ton against a formidable West Indies bowling attack. Though Mashrafe Mortaza is the skipper of Bangladesh, it’s Shakib who’s leading his nation from the front.
Liton Das’s knock of 94 was instrumental as well. Bangladesh’s campaign has been interesting so far as they’ve managed to beat South Africa and now West Indies.
If they go forward to beat another big side in the upcoming days, they might very well make it to the final four of the pool table. Bangladesh’s game against India on July 2 is going to be of huge significance in the context of the World Cup.
