Former Indian pacer and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach, Laxmipathy Balaji has recently stated in an interview that MS Dhoni will have a big part to play in the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.
Though the veteran wicket keeper batsman was under the pump in 2018 for a poor display of performances with the bat, Dhoni managed to redeem himself in the three-match ODI series versus Australia where the former captain struck three consecutive half centuries while claiming the player of the series award. Balaji feels that Dhoni’s presence in the middle order ensures stability, which will be the beneficial for the rest of the batsmen as well.
“MS Dhoni’s experience can’t be questioned. There are not many better than him when it comes to handling situations with maturity. He has been a guiding force for the youngsters. India needs his experience to guide the middle-order batsmen,” Balaji told India Today. “Virat, Rohit, and Dhawan bring in experience to the top-order. What about the middle-order? MS Dhoni will be a big influence in this team,” he added.
In last year’s edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), MS Dhoni kept coming up the order for CSK on quite a few occasions which saw him pull of some astonishing run chases, which propelled the yellow army to win the prized tournament.
“Last year, he played higher-up the order for Chennai Super Kings. His batting form was phenomenal. The way he batted, the way he hit the ball was phenomenal. But you never know with MS. He always comes up with a few surprises. We will wait and see the surprises at the World Cup,” Balaji further added.
