Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen, the youngest member of the Indian contingent made it to the main draw of New Zealand Open after beating Ajay Jayaram and Malaysia's Teck Zhi Soo in the qualifying rounds.
Against a senior and experienced opponent, Sen showed a lot of grit as he handed Jayaram a 21-18, 21-13 defeat in his first qualifying match that lasted 31 minutes.
In his second qualifier, the shuttler just took 32 minutes to thrash Zhi Soo 21-11, 21-12 and stormed into the main draw of the men's singles.
On the other hand, Parupalli Kashyap lost his second qualifying match and had to bow out of the tournament.
Kashyap defeated Peter Yan of Australia in his opening qualifier 21-8, 21-9 in just 26 minutes but could not go to the second round. China's Sun Feixiang beat Kashyap 16-21, 18-21 in the match that lasted 42 minutes.
