On this day in 1983, India was crowned World Champions for the first time. The Indian team defeated West Indies by 43 runs in the final at Lord’s. Indian captain Kapil Dev led from the front with crucial contributions throughout the tournament.
Mohinder Amarnath won the Man of the Match award in the final while Roger Binny was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, grabbing 18 wickets. 25th June 1983 is considered as a landmark day in the history of Indian sports.
