Pune 7 Aces took on bottom-lying Delhi Dashers in the 21st tie of the fourth edition of the ongiong Premier Badminton League (PBL) at Ahmedabad. It was Pune's day as they humbled Delhi courtesy a final scoreline: 5-0.
The fixtures of the tie were as follows
(Mixed doubles): Pune's Vladimir Ivanov-Line Hjomark faced Delhi's Maneepong Jongjit and Evgeniya Kosetskaya in the opening match of the tie. It was the trump match for Pune as they aimed for dominating start. They achieved it with a fine scoreline favouring Ivanov-Hjomark after three games: 9-15, 15-14, 15-8.
(Men's singles): The second match saw siblings, Chirag and Lakshya Sen, lock horns with each other for their respective teams. Younger brother Lakshya edged past in striaght games. Both players had their chances but Lakshya's good recent form helped him overcome the challenge to win 15-12, 15-11.
(Women's singles): Leading 3-0, Pune's star player Carolina Marin clashed with Russia's Evgeniya Kosetskaya in the third clash of the tie. Marin continued her side's dominance and demolished her opposition without breaking much sweat: 15- 5,15-6.
(Men's doubles): Chai Biao and Jongjit came up against Pune's skipper Mathias Boe and Chirag Shetty. The tie was pretty much done and dusted for Delhi by this time. They further got embarassed with the fourth consecutive defeat as Boe-Chirag came from 9-15 to win 15-10, 15-13.
This was Delhi's trump match, and one last chance to salvage some pride.
(Men's singles): In the last and second men's singles clash, it was Delhi's Tommy Sugiarto against Brice Leverdez. Sugiarto was the only saving grace for his struggling side. With a 15-7, 15-14 scoreline, he ensured Delhi got at least one win, in the overall tie, and not finish with a negative point.
