U.P. Yoddha edged past a superlative effort from Tamil Thalaivas to hold them to 37-32 on Day Two of ongoing Pro Kabaddi League at a packed Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here on Monday. The victory could have been sweeter had Tamil Thalaivas not given them a serious run for their money in the second half. At one stage in the second half, Thalaivas were 19 points in arrears but came very close to bow out by five points only.
Thalaivas' skipper, Ajay Thakur, led from the front for his side's emphatic comeback. Thakur pocketed 12 points (nine raid points, three bonus points) to sizzle the mat in the dying minutes of the game with back-to-back successful raids. On the other hand, Manjeet Chhillar complimented him and picked up four tackle points too.
For U.P. Yoddha, Prashanth Kumar Rai (eight points) and Shrikant Yadav (five points) starred in attack while Narender (four tackle points) did the job defensively.
Since the start of the game, UP Yoddha dominated. They were fierce and exposed Thalaivas' cluelessness in the middle. At halftime, U.P. Yoddha led 18-4. The script remained the same in the second half as well before Thalaivas suddenly woke upto the occasion. They did remarkably well to reduce the deficit from 5-22 to 19-27. Thakur and Chillar used all their experience into play, but Yoddhas maintained their composure in the end.
Maybe an early wakeup call, or more contribution from others, could have resulted in Thalaivas' victory.
Eventually, U.P. Yoddha managed to held firm in the last few minutes to be the deserving winners.
