Gujarat Fortunegiants triumphed over a fighting UP Yoddha in the last knockout match ahead of the final in PKL 6. Dejected with his side's exit after having come so close, skipper Rishank Devadiga has pledged to come back stronger in the next edition.
Post the 38-31 loss, Rishank told, "This hasn't been a satisfactory season for us. From a personal point of view, I was given the opportunity to lead this great team but unfortunately we couldn't get over the line."
Rishank also pointed out the promising raider Prasanth kumar Rai as the one for the future. "We have had a lot of positives from this season, specially the rise of youngsters like Prasanth. Hopefully we can come back stronger next season," he said.
Rishank was quick to choose his winner of the ongoing season and lamented praise on Bengaluru Bulls' defence. "Bengaluru has a great chance of winning the PKL-6 title. Their defence has been one of the strongest this season," he said.
On the other hand, Gujarat's coach had a word of caution for his side ahead of the summit clash and applauded UP for their all-round unit. "UP has had a great 8-game unbeaten streak. We monitored that and went after their weaknesses. Towards the end, they managed to come back... We always knew they are a very good side and can comeback anytime. Our players played well, despite conceding a few towards the end. Hopefully we can take the title which we missed last season," he added.
Bengaluru and Gujarat played the Qualifier 1 wherein the former booked a place in the final. They were awaiting the winner of UP versus Gujarat but the latter kept their nerves and negated the late fightback by UP to edge past them and setup a final date with favourites, Bengaluru.
