The New Year has rung in and so has the birthday of one of India’s medal hope for 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
The wrestler who will be having a ball today will be none other than India’s lone female Bronze Medalist at the UWW World Championships held in Budapest, Hungary in October, 2018. Pooja Dhanda, who hails from Hisar, Haryana celebrates her birthday today.
Pooja Dhanda is only the 4th female Indian wrestler to have won a medal at the World Championships, she earned the bronze medal in the 57 kg Women’s category. Earlier, Alka Tomar, Babita Phogat, Geeta Phogat, have each won a bronze medal at the World Championships.
The Year 2018 proved quite fruitful for her as she also managed to grab a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, 2018 held in Gold Coast, Australia. She also made it to the Bronze medal match at the Asian Games in Jakarta but ran out of luck against the Japanese wrestler who beat her 1-6.
Dhanda who is currently ranked 4th in the latest World Rankings released by the United World Wrestling, is India’s another medal prospect from Wrestling, for which the likes of Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have hogged the limelight.
The grappler from Hisar has been getting wishes on various social media platforms.
Thankyou so much sir
