Third seed PV Sindhu suffered a shock defeat against China’s Gao Fangjie in the Round of 16 match of the Japan Open. The ace Indian shuttler struggled to maintain her composure and committed a number of unforced errors in the second game, as she lost 18-21, 19-21 against the 19-year old opponent.
Recently Sindhu won silver in Asian Games. In this tournament third seed Sindhu beat local girl Sayaka Takahashi in her women’s singles opening round. Now she played Chinese Fangjie Gao, who defeated the other Indian in fray Jakka Vaishnavi Reddy 21-10 21-8.
Sindhu had played Gao only once before, losing that match at the China Open with a 21-11, 21-10 scoreline.
