It was a battle of Phogats, where one Phogat won the battle and other the war as it was MP Yodhas who defeated Mumbai Maharathis 4-3 in a thrilling encounter of a Pro Wrestling League Season 4 fixture at the Tau Devi Lal Indoor Stadium in Panchkula.
The 53 kg category bout between the, Ritu Phogat of MP Yodha and Vinesh Phogat of Mumbai Maharathis, stood out the most during the evening. Vinesh Phogat, the Asian Games Gold medalist, started well against her cousin Ritu Phogat and led 8-0 after the first round. But despite her best efforts, Ritu couldn’t create the opening she required and Vinesh went on to clinch the bout 8-0 and bring the Maharathis 1-1 back into the fixture.
The other bout of the day which was mouth watering to say the least was 57 kg category bout of Pooja Dhanda versus Betzabeth Angelica. The Indian who took to the mat for the MP Yodha showed resilience to stage a comeback and win 7-4. The World Championship bronze medalist was trailing 4-5 at the end of the first round but showed enough fire to catapult the scoreline and end the bout at 7-4.
Earlier, Maharathis import Baitseev Vladislav trounced Akash Antil 16-0 in 125 kg men’s bout to give Maharathis the lead.
The fixture also saw battle of the Deepaks where Deepak Punia of Maharathis took home the bout against his name sake of Yodhas.
The last bout of the evening which proved to be the decider saw Yodha’s Sandeep Tomar get better of Ibragim Ilyasov 10-7 in a closely fought bout which saw both the wrestlers tied at 4-4 during halftime.
