Indian rising tennis player Ramkumar Ramanathan entered the semi-finals of the Hall of Fame Open in Newport by defeating world No. 98 Vasek Pospisil 7-5, 6-2 on Friday.
The 161-ranked Indian won in one hour and 18 minutes to make his first-ever semis at an ATP tournament. A day earlier, he had beaten eighth seed Denis Kudla (USA) in three sets.
Ramkumar will meet Tim Smyczek, also of the US, in the last four of the grasscourt tournament later on Friday.
Last year, Ramkumar had scored an upset win over then world No. 8 Dominic Thiem and given a scare to Australian Open semi-finalist Marcos Baghdatis at the Antalya Open.
