After taking 12 wickets in the match against Kerala, Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has put Vidarbha one step closer to winning their consecutive Ranji Trophy title as the team routed Kerala by an innings and 11 runs on the second day of the semi-final clash between the two teams in the ongoing season of the highly-prestigious domestic tournament.
Not just ball, Yadav was really valuable with the bat too. Resuming the Day two at 171 for the loss of five wickets, the defending champs were bowled out for 208 to take the lead past the 100-run mark thanks to some powerful hitting by Yadav. He scored 17 runs off 8 balls, which included 2 sixes & one boundary.
Once Vidarbha took a modest lead of 102, the team of Kerala were always facing a tough task to come back into the game. They made a good start but lost Jalaj Saxena at the score of 28. Yadav added four more wickets to his name and completed another five-wicket-haul in the second innings of the game.
Vidarbha bundled out the Kerala team for a low score of 91 in the second innings to seal the low-scoring contest a little after lunch on the second day of the clash, which eventually turned out to be the last day of the match.
The 31-year-old cricketer had destroyed the Kerala batting line-up in the first innings by picking up an amazing seven-wicket haul and returned today to dash all the hopes of a fightback. He has been quite a force in the ongoing season of Ranji as he took nine wickets in the quarterfinal clash over Uttarakhand, which Yadav’s team won.
The Vidarbha side now awaits the winner of the other semi-final game between Karnataka and Saurashtra that is being played in Bengaluru.
