With Jasprit Bumrah being given a rest for the One Day International (ODI) series against Australia as well as the tour to New Zealand, it is the Hyderabad based bowler – Mohammed Siraj who has been inducted to the Indian squad, as he braces himself to a newer frontier in his cricketing career.
Siraj has been a key member of the Royal Challengers Banagalore (RCB) side under the mentorship of Aashish Nehra , who has helped him heaps and bounds to grow as an individual. The rookie was quick to get back to his mentor as soon as he got the call-up from the selection committee, in order gain an insight to succeed on Australian soil.
“I spoke to Ashish Nehra sir a couple of hours after my call-up. He said go play your natural game. He asked me to bowl fuller deliveries and in the line of the stumps. He said Australian batsmen are very good at playing cut and pull shots,” Siraj said.
Mohammed Siraj is bound to feel the pressure while wearing the blue kit for the nation, as there will be bundles of expectation from the masses, with him replacing India’s front line pacer – Jasprit Bumrah who has been a revelation for Team India in the past year or so. Siraj states that he is up for the challenge and will relish every opportunity given to him by Captain Kohli.
“I am ready to take up the responsibility in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. I am ready to handle the pace department. He (Bumrah) was amazing in the Test series. He is our star bowler. There will be lots of expectations from me in his absence and I am ready for the series,” he added.
