India’s ace badminton player PV Sindhu was shown the exit door at the Indonesia Masters by her nemesis Carolina Marin in straight games during the quarter-final clash.
The Indian who had a 5-7 win-loss record before the start of the match looked listless against the Spaniard and lost the match 11-21, 12-21. The Spaniard took just 37 minutes to wrap up the proceedings in her favor.
The reigning BWF World Tour Finals champion Sindhu was completely off color and Indian started the match in a feeble manner and conceded a 1-6 lead in the beginning. Though, she did bridge the gap at 5-7 but by the time the mid-game break was taken it was 11-5 in Marin’s favor. The Spaniard kept up the pressure and finished the game at 21-11 without any fuss.
The second game too followed the rut where Marin scored 5 points to open the game. Sindhu then tried to claw back but at 5-3 Marin made merry with 6 successive points to make it 11-3 by the 2-minute breather. Sindhu had no answer to Marin’s onslaught and eventually capsized to hand out the game and the match12-21.
This was Sindhu’s first tournament of the 2019 season and having been annihilated in such fashion won’t do her confidence any good. Saina Nehwal, on the other hand, played her second tour event in Indonesia Masters and will make a consecutive Semifinal appearance against He Bingjiao of China after having made the semifinals of Malaysia Masters last week in Kuala Lumpur.
