The first ODI of the five match series between Sri Lanka and England has been abandoned due to heavy rain. Sri Lanka after winning the toss elected have a bowl first. England got off to a good start before losing two wickets of Jason Roy 24 (27) and Jonny Bairstow 25 (24) in quick succession.
Joe Root 25 (28)* and Eoin Morgan 14 (11)* further stabilized the innings by pushing England’s score to 92 for the loss of 2 wickets before the weather played its part to ruin the party.
Akila Dananjaya and Nuwan Pradeep were the two wicket takers for the Lankans.
The second ODI takes place in Dambulla on Saturday, while a reserve day is scheduled for Sunday due to the monsoon season in Sri Lanka.
